Résumé of Stephen Schettini
Academic, life and work experience
1974 - present
I completed my undergraduate studies at London University (Social Science, Honours) in 1974. Although I was a Buddhist monk in the Tibetan tradition for eight years, only a portion of that time was spent in quiet meditation. Mostly, I lodged in boisterous monastic universities where I studied debate and mind-training. While the purpose of formal meditation is to focus one's concentration, mind-training has a far more ambitious goal – to develop new ways of thinking and a new approach to oneself, one’s life and one’s work. While there:
-
I learned classical and conversational Tibetan;
-
I taught Tibetan language, debate and scriptural interpretation to other Westerners;
-
I translated texts and interpreted teachings by the last of the Tibetan-born lamas to western audiences in India and Europe;
and finally,
-
I returned to consumer life in order to understand for myself the everyday realities of the most stressed-out society in human history.
Since then I survived, prospered and acquired the following work experience:
-
I studied computer science and worked at Microcom Computer Solutions, helping Montreal corporations integrate personal computer technology as it emerged during the PC revolution of 1982;
-
I was Product Manager for Eicon Technology Corporation, representing the company to OEM customers and at international trade shows;
-
I founded Hudson Computer Solutions, a local commerce dedicated to serving the maintenance needs of home computer users;
-
I developed in-depth knowledge of typography and design during a period of profound change in the industry, as digital tools replaced traditional ones and multiple professions coalesced into one-person operations;
-
I became a contributing editor to the monthly magazine Electronic Composition & Imaging and the trade newspaper Print Action, as a specialist on interfacing personal computers to printing & typography;
-
I founded Kudo.ca Communications Inc., a print and web editor, designer and publisher of scientific, medical and business documentation;
-
I founded schettini.com, my personal website and a source of in-depth information on my approach to meditation, for my students – mostly educated and professional people;
-
I founded Quiet Mind Seminars to bring the benefits of mind-training and stress management to the corporate workplace and to integrate spontaneity and intuitive leadership at work through focus, clarity and connection.
