About The Quiet Mind

Meditative quiescence isn’t some remote island of tranquility but a practical state of mind, able to cope with everyday stresses and to face our deepest existential fears. A mind emptied of illusions fills spontaneously with awe for one’s own consciousness and a determination to live life to the full.

Quiet Mind workshops take place in the Montreal area as a series of eight weekly sessions.

The purpose of all workshops and seminars is not to lecture you on Buddhist philosophy or to come up with convenient answers to your problems. Rather, it is to help you develop an intuitive coping mechanism that doesn't simply avoid stress but turns setbacks into a source of insight and an opportunity for growth.

This is achieved through the practice of mindful reflection, a non-theoretical approach to life that includes not only periods of quiet reflection but all your daily activities. The practice leads to first-hand insight into your own mental patterns and to the very roots of consciousness.

This approach is twofold: meditative practices develop focus and mental strength; critical reflection (yoniso manasikara in the ancient Buddhist language of Pali) confronts the inner dialogue that rushes us from birth to death, and transforms it into a stream of profoundly wakeful consciousness. To put it another way, the concentrative aspect of meditation is about calming your agitation, the reflective aspect is about agitating your calm.

The workshop helps you bring mindfulness into your everyday life and get to know yourself in ways you never imagined. Each session includes brief periods of silent meditation as well as detailed explanations of how to get into your own mind and what to look out for. A question and answer period concludes each evening.

From its roots in mud the lily emerges as a spotless bloom, just as the focussed, reflective mind grows from the busy stresses of daily life
