The Quiet Mind is the mental-emotional balance that emerges from a distinctive combination of a clear mind and open heart. It is cultivated through mindful reflection, a pragmatic form of meditation not to be confused with the whimsical stereotype of a mind empty of thoughts and emotions. The goal is a flexible, down-to-earth state of mind that emerges inseparably from everyday life and is not set apart from it.

Mindful reflection is an attitude of non-judgmental watchfulness applied to body, mind, feelings and outer objects. Through long-term practice, one develops a new relationship to oneself in which the stressful cycle of control/frustration is gradually displaced by one of discovery/openness. This is experienced as entering into a new relationship with oneself, and therefore also with others. The end result is a shift away from trying to make life conform to one’s expectations. No matter how blessed or cursed one considers one’s own life, this means shedding illusions and coming to terms with the reality of living in a stressful and unpredictable world. The radical willingness to work with what one has is profoundly empowering, opening both heart and mind to one’s own individuality and unlocking the door to one’s unknown and sometimes surprising potential.

This transformed attitude towards oneself, others and life itself promotes physical, mental and emotional healing and is experienced quite simply as a path to happiness.
